Abstrakt: The article focuses on emergency contraception (EC), a type of birth control method used after intercourse to prevent pregnancy. EC can reduce a woman's chance of becoming pregnant by 80 to 85 percent when taken within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has declared regimens of commonly used oral birth control pills as safe and effective for use as EC to prevent pregnancy in February 1997. One of the most common misconception about EC is that it is an abortifacient.
