The article looks into the historical development of the formation of the municipal parks system in London, Ontario from 1867-1914. A brief history of the St. James Park is presented. Significantly, the municipal parks system emerged from the struggles of political leaders on supporting either for public recreation or for the provision of public parks. Furthermore, such parks have been developed for various reasons and served specific roles for leisure and recreation. The city have organized their parks into a coherent system amidst pressure from social reform movements which focused primarily on national playground initiatives. |
