Abstrakt: The article presents information on several studies related to clinical medicine. According to a study, airflow obstruction in smokers is often diagnosed relatively late, but early detection and smoking cessation might result in significant health gain. Perhaps objective measurement that the patient can see can help strengthen the resolve to stop. Dutch researchers found large numbers of smokers with undetected persistent airflow obstruction, especially among male smokers aged 40-65 with more than 30 pack years. In another study, a randomised controlled trial recruited patients from 48 outpatient centres in the US and Canada. All patients had type-2 diabetes and were on dual therapy of insulin secretagogue and sensitiser, with HbA1c levels between 8 and 11 per cent and no clinically significant respiratory disease.
