Abstrakt: The article provides biographical information on American poet William Meredith. Meredith began writing seriously in the early 1940s. Much of his poetry from this time was influenced by his time spent in military service. "Love Letter From an Impossible Land" conveys the fascination and horror of a world in global conflict. Some of the poems reflect Meredith's personal feelings, while others are written in a more formal, codified verse. The latter variety show Meredith's fierce reaction to waves created by his contemporaries, T. S. Eliot and Ezra Pound; he was committed to the traditional forms.
