Abstrakt: This article profiles Sadakichi Hartmann, a journalist, playwright, novelist and poet. As a young man, he sought and befriended author Walt Whitman, whose influence was profound. He founded a number of art journals and published such titles as Shakespeare in Art, The History of American Art, Modern American Sculpture and Japanese Art. In 1930, he published a selection of previously published pieces, Seven Short Stories.
