Abstrakt: The article focuses on the church participation and personal religiosity of low income women. A quantitative analysis of the General Social Survey from 1972-2002 has been done in this context. The article also presents a detailed analysis of interviews with forty-five white, black, and Hispanic mothers on welfare living in Boston. The statistics of the survey illustrate that despite having higher levels of certain measures of personal religiosity, poor women are less likely to participate in formal religion than their non-poor counterparts.
