The article reports that researchers are often puzzled by the absence of the effects of unemployed status on market justice norms and beliefs. This study about urban China implies that exposure to media can mediate unemployed people's opinions, although not indiscriminatingly. Media in China had been striving to communicate uniform messages favoring market friendly norms and beliefs for a long time. It is found in this research that exposure to media is likely to evoke unemployed people's support for the norms about the indispensability of a free market for China's prosperity and the legitimacy of pursuit of personal interest. |
