Abstrakt: The article discusses the effects of political exile on political leaders. Exile creates an immediate and severe upheaval in the lives of its victims. Leaders and members of parties are taken away from their homes and sometimes their families and left to pursue lives and political action away from the very people with whom they most seek connection. In recent years, members of political parties in exile have returned to positions of power in new states, and quickly become involved in the formation of new, more liberal and sometimes democratic state structures and institutions.
