A study from Liverpool John Moores University compared the Mannheim Multicomponent Stress Test (MMST) to the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) in assessing anxiety responses. The MMST induced smaller psychobiological responses compared to the TSST, with lower state anxiety and peak heart rate responses. However, the MMST did not increase saliva cortisol, leading researchers to conclude that it may not be a viable alternative to the TSST for studying acute stress reactivity in healthy adults.
