Researchers at Croydon University Hospital conducted a study to determine if adjusting the Carr-Hill formula or total GP funding by deprivation data improves the accuracy of predicting clinical need. The study utilized data from Lower-Super-Output-Areas in England and found that incorporating deprivation data within funding models resulted in more accurate distribution of funds in relation to clinical need. The research suggests that capitation models should better account for variations in mortality and that total funding's lower accuracy compared to the Carr-Hill formula indicates inefficiencies introduced by pay-for-service and pay-for-performance mechanisms.
