Researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen conducted a study on Bardet-Biedl syndrome (BBS), a rare genetic disorder affecting multiple organs, including the kidney and liver. The study aimed to evaluate high-end ultrasound technologies in BBS patients to detect liver and kidney tissue pathology at an early stage. Findings showed a higher percentage of kidney and liver abnormalities in BBS patients than previously reported, indicating the potential for early detection and improved diagnostic and therapeutic approaches. The research was funded by Bundesministerium FuR Bildung Und Forschung and Universitatsklinikum Essen, and the full study can be accessed in the Orphanet Journal of Rare Diseases.
