Abstrakt: Researchers from Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos conducted a study on hospitalized older adults to screen for sarcopenia and explore the relationship between heart rate variability (HRV), peripheral muscle strength, functional ability, independence, and nutritional status. The study found that most hospitalized older adults met criteria for sarcopenia, and better autonomic control of the heart was associated with greater independence, muscle strength, physical activity level, and better nutritional status. Conversely, worse HRV was linked to a higher risk of mortality in this population. The research provides valuable insights into the impact of these factors on the health and well-being of older adults. [Extracted from the article]
