Abstrakt: This article presents information on an investigation related the frequency of publications produced within academic institutions. Previous surveys in other disciplines used five or ten year periods as the basis for assessing quantity of publications. A six-year criterion was employed in this investigation. The study examined quantity of articles published per institution in eleven national and regional journals in the field of speech communication for the period, 1980-1985. On the basis of suggestions by colleagues and by members of the Association of Communication Administration, a plan was devised to compensate in the analysis for multiple authorship when assigning point values to institutions. Co-authored or multi-authored articles were counted as one point, but with the point divided equally among all of the authors' institutions. In an attempt to examine the publishing trends within a college or university housing a department concerned with the communication arts and sciences and to identify the journals to which the faculty was contributing, the respective authors reanalyzed data from fifty institutions reported in the earlier studies.
