Abstrakt: The article presents an investigation of the quantity of articles produced in the communication discipline. A recent article in this journal provided data concerning the total number of publications by faculty members in a given institution that appeared in eleven major speech communication journals during the period 1980-85. The report identified the fifty institutions housing departments concerned with communication programs which contributed most frequently to selected speech journals during a six year period. An examination of results suggests that not all scholarly activity in the speech communication discipline is to be found within post-graduate institutions. Although the data reported here present interesting findings with regard to the quality of institutions, several factors should be taken into account when interpreting its results. First, the information reported reflects a single index for a given six- year period. Changes in departmental faculties occur yearly, thus, the data reported in this article cannot indicate recent trends or relative changes. Second, these data only relate to quantity of publication.
