Abstrakt: The article discusses a study comparing surgical epilepsy care outcomes between a safety-net hospital system and a private hospital system in a major metropolitan area. The study found that despite higher proportions of African American and Hispanic patients in the safety-net system, there were no significant differences in seizure outcomes or complication rates between the two systems. However, patients from safety-net hospitals were more likely to be lost to follow-up. The study suggests that quality and equitable surgical epilepsy care can be provided in safety-net hospital systems through partnerships with comprehensive epilepsy centers.
