A recent study conducted in Yiwu, China, by the National Institute for Communicable Disease Control and Prevention revealed a higher incidence rate of pertussis (whooping cough) than previously estimated. Active surveillance showed an overall estimated incidence of 108.3 per 100,000, with children aged 4-5 years being the most at risk group. Infants aged 0-4 months had the highest hospitalization rate among pertussis patients, emphasizing the need for large-scale active surveillance of pertussis in China. [Extracted from the article] |
