Abstrakt: Researchers at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion have published new findings on pituitary hormone release inhibiting hormones, specifically focusing on the effects of a Kcnt1 gain-of-function variant on cortical GABAergic neurons. The study identified differential effects on somatostatin- and parvalbumin-expressing neurons, with the variant causing opposite functional outcomes in these closely related neuron subtypes. The research sheds light on potential disease mechanisms and highlights the complex interactions between ion channel variants and neuronal subtypes.
