The article discusses the importance of predicting equipment life in industrial sectors due to irreversible degradation over time. The Center for Innovation in Structural Integrity Assurance (CISIA) has developed a multi-scale, entropy-based technology to assess and predict equipment degradation. This technology, which does not require prior loading history information, uses entropy modeling and thermography to predict remaining useful life within 10% accuracy. Additionally, CISIA is working on noninvasive systems to detect small leaks in pipelines using distributed fiber optic sensors and advanced signal processing. [Extracted from the article] |
