Abstrakt: A new study from the University of Algarve explores the identification of candidate causal variants and target genes at 41 breast cancer risk loci through differential allelic expression analysis. The researchers developed a novel approach to understanding breast cancer genetic risk by pinpointing variants with greater regulatory potential in the disease's tissue of origin. Through genome-wide differential allelic expression analysis, they identified over 54,000 variants associated with gene expression regulation in breast tissue, including 385 genes previously associated with breast cancer risk. The study demonstrates the power of this analysis in identifying causal regulatory variants and target genes at breast cancer risk loci. [Extracted from the article]
