A recent study from the University of Florida highlights the benefits of urban gardens in addressing socio-economic crises. With over 90 percent of Floridians living in urban areas, many city dwellers have limited exposure to the natural world. Urban gardens can provide various benefits to people and wildlife, including improving mental and physical health, reducing stress, and enhancing general well-being. The COVID-19 pandemic has further emphasized the importance of urban green spaces. The research lists and explains ten major benefits that urban gardens provide to ecosystems and people, offering valuable insights for Extension agents, gardeners, garden managers, and urban planners interested in supporting and promoting urban gardens in Florida's urban communities.
