A study conducted by researchers at Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology in Beijing, China, explored the value of parotid sialography in diagnosing and staging Sjogren's syndrome (SS). The study included 287 patients and found that parotid sialography had a sensitivity of 82.6% and specificity of 71.5% in diagnosing SS. The researchers also categorized SS into early, active, and quiescent stages based on imaging and serological autoantibody tests. The study concluded that parotid sialography is valuable in diagnosing SS and that performing imaging and serological autoantibody tests before lip gland biopsy can reduce invasive examinations without significantly increasing the rate of missed diagnosis.
