A recent study conducted by researchers at the Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos found that type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) negatively affects the functional performance of the 6-minute step test (6MST) in patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). The study aimed to evaluate the impact of T2DM on functional capacity and its role as a prognostic marker for fatal and non-fatal events in CHF patients. The results showed that the CHF-T2DM group had significantly lower functional capacity compared to the CHF non-T2DM group. Additionally, T2DM was found to be a predictor of functional capacity and was associated with a higher risk of mortality and acute myocardial infarction over a 36-month follow-up period.
