A study conducted at Walnut Creek Medical Center in California aimed to determine if antimicrobial bathing with 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) could reduce the incidents of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) and catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI) in the intensive care unit (ICU). The study involved four adult ICUs at a two-hospital facility and included a baseline period of one year followed by an intervention period of one year. The results showed that daily bathing with CHG significantly reduced the incidence of CAUTI at one facility, but its association with a reduced risk of CLABSI was inconclusive. The researchers plan to continue the intervention to gather more data. [Extracted from the article] |
