This article addresses the issue of aggression in the pharmacy sector and offers strategies for pharmacists to handle and reduce aggressive confrontations. It acknowledges that work-related violence and aggression are present in the pharmacy sector, but only a small percentage of Australians exhibit threatening or aggressive behavior. The article also notes that the Covid-19 pandemic has worsened the problem of aggression in community pharmacy settings. It emphasizes the significance of recognizing and addressing aggressive behavior, implementing risk control measures, and fostering a workplace environment that is safe and respectful. The article provides guidance for pharmacists on how to respond to aggressive behavior from patients, including the use of the CLASHED Action Plan, which involves listening to the patient's concerns, showing empathy, and taking responsibility for finding a resolution. The article also discusses the right to refuse service and the importance of creating a respectful and safe environment. It offers suggestions for pharmacists to take care of themselves after a traumatic event and stresses the need to involve the entire team in discussions and reporting.
