A new report from researchers at Universidade Federal de Sao Carlos examines the use of antimicrobials in long-term care facilities from the perspective of nurses. The study found that nurses play a significant role in the decision to begin antibiotic therapy in these facilities, with over 90% of respondents reporting that they contacted a prescriber to report signs and symptoms of infection. The research suggests that nurses would benefit from training on the rational use of antimicrobials. The study collected data from 35 institutions across Brazil. [Extracted from the article] |
