Abstrakt: Iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) are major public health problems worldwide, especially in young women. Insufficient iron storage and/or loss of iron through excessive bleeding are common causes. Oral iron supplementation is an effective strategy for treating and preventing IDA, aiming to increase the production of haemoglobin and replenish the body's iron stores. Traditional ferrous sulphate is commonly used. However, lower doses of daily elemental iron may be as effective with fewer side effects. In addition, novel iron formulations are available, which have been formulated to improve iron absorption and maximise tolerability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
