Elke Mader, a highly regarded anthropologist, passed away in 2021 at the age of 67. She held a prestigious position as the Chair of Social and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Vienna and made significant contributions to the field. Her research focused on various topics, including the subsistence and work organization of Indigenous communities in the Amazon, vision-quest rituals and personhood, myth and ritual dynamics, and the impact of tourism and globalization on different cultures.
