Nanotechnology has been applied to resin composites to reduce particles’ sizes and increase fillers’ volumes to enhance their esthetic and mechanical properties. This in-vitro study was designed to compare the wear resistance and evaluate its association with hardness and weight loss of FiltekTM Z250 XT nanohybrid and Omnichroma nano-filled composites. Wear was measured using a biaxial chewing simulator after exposure to 37,500 cycles, which represents 3 months of mastication, and Vickers hardness number (VHN) was also determined. FiltekTM Z250 XT showed a lower significant weight loss (38±16 mg) than Omnichroma (73±12 mg). In contrast, the VHN value of Omnichroma (58.88±3.22) was significantly higher than the value of FiltekTM Z250 (39.88±3.97). FiltekTM Z250 XT showed significantly better wear resistance, but a significantly lower VHN value compared to Omnichroma. The distribution of fillers’ particles plays a crucial role in the wear resistance and the hardness of these resin composites. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
