The article discusses a modified technique called Glass Ionomer Open Exposure (GOPEX) for treating palatally impacted canines. The GOPEX procedure involves using glass ionomer cement (GIC) to cover the crown of the impacted canine, which helps prevent tissue overgrowth. The article provides a detailed clinical protocol for performing the GOPEX procedure and highlights its effectiveness during early and middle adolescence. The article also presents a case study of a patient who underwent the GOPEX procedure successfully. However, the article notes that the GOPEX procedure may not be suitable for cases where the impacted canine is blocked or in close contact with adjacent teeth. The article compares the GOPEX procedure to closed-eruption techniques and highlights the advantages of the GOPEX procedure, including shorter treatment times and fewer appointments. The article also addresses potential complications and discomfort associated with the procedure and emphasizes the well-tolerated nature of the GOPEX method. [Extracted from the article] |
