Abstrakt: | This article is a review essay of the translation of Seneca's play "The Madness of Hercules" by Dana Gioia. The author discusses how Seneca's work has been largely forgotten and aims to bring attention to it through this translation. The play tells the story of Hercules' descent into madness and the tragic events that follow. The author praises Gioia's translation for its narrative drive and dramatic tension, but also acknowledges the challenges of staging a Greek tragedy in the modern theater. The article concludes by questioning whether a successful production of "The Madness of Hercules" is possible in today's cultural climate. [Extracted from the article] |
