Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB) Finance Professor Mei Jianping has released the Spring 2024 MM Chinese Art Indices, which analyze repeated auction sales to track changes in the Chinese art market. The indices cover artworks by over 400 Chinese artists from 1980-2024 and provide information on prices, sentiment, liquidity, and popularity. The latest figures show that the Chinese art market is in a period of consolidation with a slowing downward trend, and Chinese art continues to hold long-term investment value. While auction prices have fallen due to the pandemic and a transitioning Chinese economy, the market is expected to recover as China's economy grows and Chinese wealth increases. The indices offer systematic and comparable data to evaluate purchase decisions on Chinese art. [Extracted from the article] |
