Abstrakt: The article explores Vincent Tiley's "Rope Paintings," which used garment textiles and ropes for binding and tying to create portraits such as "Teen," "Black Ant," "Sea of Vapor" and "Crushed Orchid." It discusses Tiley's tying of rope to reference geometric abstraction in western modernism, as well as an act of bondage and forcing of an ordered pattern onto a disorganized body.
