| Abstrakt: | The article discusses the rediscovery of a Roman cameo or carved gemstone that shows actors' rehearsal of Posidippus' Ancient Greek comedy "The Pimp." Topics explored include the contribution of these gems to the study of the history of Greek New Comedy, the initial publication of this cameo in 1752 by archaeologist Comte de Caylus, and a comparison between this cameo and other carved gems that depict scenes associated with the plays of Greek comic poet Menander. |
