Abstrakt: The article discusses the relationship between theoretical and practical research in mathematics education. The author highlights the historical context of pedagogical research in Germany, where there has been a tradition of aiming to improve educational practices. The article also explores the distinction between "is" and "ought" in language and questions whether this distinction exists in all cultures and languages. The author suggests that if there are languages that do not distinguish between "is" and "ought," it could have implications for scientific statements and the ongoing debate on mathematics education.
