Abstrakt: A recent study conducted by clinical geropsychologist Peter Lichtenberg at Wayne State University has found a link between early memory loss and excessive spending. The study, called the WALLET (Wealth Accumulations & Later-life Losses in Early cognitive Transitions) study, analyzed a year's worth of participants' checking account statements to identify signs of excess spending and other anomalies. The study included 150 participants ranging in age from 59 to 96, with about half experiencing perceived or mild cognitive impairment. The results suggest that early memory loss is a predictor of excess spending, and this association is influenced by financial decision-making and financial vulnerability. Lichtenberg will present the study's findings at the Alzheimer's Association International Conference. [Extracted from the article]
