Abstrakt: Researchers from Juntendo University Graduate School of Medicine in Tokyo, Japan conducted a study comparing the effectiveness of antihistamine-releasing contact lenses and daily disposable soft contact lenses in managing ocular symptoms and treatment behavior in patients with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis. The study included 24 participants, with 17 using daily disposable soft contact lenses and 7 using antihistamine-releasing contact lenses. The results showed that antihistamine-releasing contact lens users experienced a greater reduction in ocular symptom scores and a delay in the initiation of anti-allergic eye drop treatment compared to daily disposable soft contact lens users. The researchers concluded that antihistamine-releasing contact lenses can potentially help mitigate ocular allergic responses during the hay fever season when used as a preventive measure.
