This research note is a report on a project which has been supported by the Roger Schofield Local Population Studies Research Fund. The project examines the impact of the disaster on bereaved wives and children through records generated by a large-scale charitable response following the disaster, which we link to the censuses for rich longitudinal information. Particular attention is focused on the records of a school opened in April 1862 to provide free education to the orphaned children, and to other local children for a fee. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
