Abstrakt: A conservation-focused initiative at the Cartagena Botanical Garden builds upon the critical role of the threatened mangrove tree species Pelliciera benthamii, within the Caribbean's mangrove ecosystems. We enhanced conservation efforts for this neotropical mangrove species. To bridge the gap between horticultural and scientific conservation actions and engage the garden’s visitors, we established a new living collection of mangrove species aimed at enlightening visitors about the significance of this vital ecosystem and important conservation assessments. Ground-truthing activities provided a solid baseline for conservation efforts, raising awareness among local communities and governmental institutions, and contributing to decision-making processes aimed at its protection.
