The Democracy Perception Index (DPI) released its 2024 report, which reflects global perceptions about democracy, geopolitics, and international relations. The survey was conducted between February and April 2024, during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip. The report highlights several key findings, including growing dissatisfaction with democracy, the practical importance of democracy to ordinary people, and the perception that western globalization has failed to create social equality and democratic institutions. Other findings include differing opinions on cutting ties with Russia and China, a decline in the United States' global influence due to its support of Israel, and the belief that social media has a positive effect on democracy. The report concludes that if the collective yearnings for democracy, social equality, and justice continue to be ignored, social upheaval and military coups may occur in the future.
