Pleomorphic adenoma is the most common benign tumor typically found in major salivary glands and is relatively rare in minor salivary glands. It predominantly affects females in their third to fifth decades of life. In this case report, we describe an unusual instance of pleomorphic adenoma in a 61-year-old male patient with melanoderma (dark skin pigmentation). The patient presented with a nodule on the lower lip that had been present for a year. Intraoral examination revealed a normochromic nodule with limited mobility, fibroelastic characteristics, and it was submerged in the region of the lower lip, situated between teeth 35 and 31. An excisional biopsy was performed, and the subsequent histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of pleomorphic adenoma. This case serves to underscore the importance of considering pleomorphic adenoma in the differential diagnosis of persistent intraoral swellings. It also emphasizes the necessity for healthcare professionals to maintain a high level of clinical vigilance due to the potential for malignant transformation in such cases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
