Lipomas are benign mesenchymal neoplasms composed of adipose tissue. They may exhibit microscopic variations, such as fibrous, chondroid, angiomatous, and rarely, osteoid differentiation. This case report describes a lipoma with osteoid differentiation in a 58-year-old male patient who presented with the complaint of a "cartilage-like growth in the mouth that has been increasing in size" over the past five years. Upon clinical evaluation, an asymptomatic yellowish, soft swelling measuring 1.5 cm was observed in the right-side buccal mucosa, covered by healthy mucosa. The initial clinical suspicion was a benign neoplasm, likely a lipoma. An excisional biopsy was performed, and microscopic analysis revealed a nodule of mature adipocytes interspersed with dense connective tissue that contained areas of focal bone tissue. The definitive diagnosis was Lipoma with osteoid differentiation. After six months of follow-up, there were no signs of recurrence in the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
