Salivary gland tumors account for approximately 2-3% of head and neck tumors. Among these, pleomorphic adenoma (PA) is the most common benign lesion. We present the case of a 60-year-old woman who visited a stomatology service with a submucosal nodule in the left buccal mucosa. The nodule had a normochromic smooth surface, was mobile, had a rubbery consistency, was painless to manipulation, and measured approximately 1 cm in its largest dimensions. The patient reported that the nodule had been present for 8 months, and no prior treatment had been administered. She did not report any other significant medical conditions. The diagnostic considerations included pleomorphic adenoma (PA) and other benign tumors originating from mesenchymal tissue or salivary glands. An excisional biopsy was performed, and the final diagnosis was confirmed as PA based on histopathological findings. Although the occurrence of PA in the minor salivary glands of the buccal mucosa is relatively uncommon, early and accurate diagnosis, along with appropriate treatment, is crucial. This allows for effective management of the condition and an improved prognosis for the patient. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
