A Japanese consortium has developed a surgical patch called Synfolium for the treatment of congenital heart disease (CHD). The patch consists of knitted fabric with both bio-absorbable and non-absorbable yarns coated with cross-linked gelatin. The patch allows for tissue growth and reduces the risk of inflammatory reactions and cell death. Clinical trials have been completed, and the patch has received approval for manufacturing and sales.
