Abstrakt: This article reports on the modern outlook on grasslands. It is evident that the study of the grazing habits of domestic animals is a subject that is now receiving an increasingly large amount of attention from agronomic workers in all parts of the world. The time has therefore come when researchers must be very clear in their minds what they want to find out and whether present techniques are the best that can be employed. However in the broader investigations into problems of grassland management, for example when comparing the efficiency of different swards, it is doubtful whether the method of continuous animal observations with the animal's behavior as the essential criterion, is the best available.
