Abstrakt: A study conducted by Shinshu University School of Medicine in Japan provides new data on congenital hearing loss. The study focused on the prevalence and causes of hearing loss in infants who fail newborn hearing screening. The researchers found that the prevalence of congenital hearing loss was 1.62 per 1000 newborns, with more than half of the cases having a genetic cause or cochlear nerve deficiency. Additionally, a small percentage of cases were associated with congenital cytomegalovirus infection or auditory neuropathy spectrum disorder.
