Abstrakt: A study conducted at Umea University in Sweden examined the differences in optic nerve subarachnoid space (ONSAS) volume between patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) and healthy controls in different body positions. The study found that there was a significant difference in ONSAS volume change between the two groups when subjected to posture changes, specifically when going from an upright to a head-down posture. This suggests that patients with NTG may have a dysfunction in the occlusion mechanism of the optic nerve sheath, leading to abnormally negative ONSAS pressures in an upright position.
