The article discusses the increased attention being given to decarbonization by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and the wider industry. The ICE has challenged the industry to make carbon management mainstream practice and has called for the regulation of embodied carbon emissions. Decarbonization is seen as both a technical and ethical issue, and civil and infrastructure engineers are seen as a significant part of the solution. The article also mentions the updated PAS 2080, which challenges the status quo in infrastructure design, construction, and operation.
