Issue: An interprofessional doctorly prepared Health Scientist is imperative to ensuring evidenced-based person-centered healthcare. Until recently the identity of doctorly prepared Health Scientists was not defined in the literature. Furthermore, successful Health Science (HS) curricular plans via formal program review practices were not present. Methods: Recognizing this need, the Association of Doctoral Programs in Health Sciences (ADPHS) aimed to fill this void by defining, "the Health Scientists' identity" and by establishing a rigorous merit review process for HS programs. To this end, a process with criteria for evaluating, and feedback through what is termed the Program of Merit (POM) review was created. This presentation will outline the POM review established by ADPHS and share insights from the first POM review on four HS doctoral programs. Outcome: Quantitative and qualitative data exploring the outcomes of the ADPHS POM process will be shared. Conclusion: The POM offers a mechanism to review curricular plans, resources, and outcomes through a constructive peer review process. This affirms the quality of doctoral HS education by preparing Health Scientists who practice interprofessional healthcare. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
