Abstrakt: One of the objectives of health sciences doctoral curricula is to advance critical thinking skills to prepare doctoral students to contribute to the development of scholarship that leads to the promotion of evidence-based person-centered health care. Objective assessment of health sciences doctoral program's ability to meet the objective of developing critical thinking along the doctoral journey is limited in the literature. Therefore, further exploration is warranted to objectively identify if critical thinking skills advance along the health science doctoral journey. This pilot study employed a cross-sectional, quasi-experimental research design to measure critical thinking skills of doctoral students pursing the PhD in Health Sciences using a valid and reliable measurement tool-The Health Science Reasoning Test (HSRT). Nine students completed the HSRT. The mean, critical thinking scores was 74-2, which ranked them at a moderate level with six falling in weak range and three strong. Students in the weak range were predissertation, those in dissertation were in strong range. A blueprint to infuse the objective assessment of critical thinking development in doctoral education is viable based upon the study findings. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
