This Opinion argues that cryptocurrency is an asset class that nation states should not attempt to regulate. We argue that cryptocurrency is inherently global and decentralised and as such it is nearly impossible for governments to implement any effective regulatory policy over it. Moreover, we contend that attempts to regulate cryptocurrency will very likely result in governments harming the market more than they help it. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR] |
